“Hanging by a Wire,” a documentary South Stack Studios proudly championed, has been selected as an official national entry for Best International Feature Film at the 99th Academy Awards® — the ceremony takes place March 14, 2027. It stands among the rare documentaries ever chosen in the category.
Directed by Mohammed Ali Naqvi, the film recounts the real 2023 incident in the Himalayan foothills in which a cable-car wire snapped, leaving eight passengers suspended hundreds of feet above a ravine. Blending archival footage with dramatic reconstruction, it premiered at the Sundance Film Festival before screening at Sydney and Tribeca. It was put forward by Pakistan as its official selection in the category.
South Stack Studios supported the film as Sponsor and Co-Executive Producer — part of our mission to fund, mentor, and champion emerging South Asian storytellers and carry their work to the world’s biggest stages. This selection is a milestone not just for the filmmakers, but for every creator who sees that these stories belong in the global conversation.
